Project Examples

Requirements

Beginning this May, a student from the International MBA program will be paired with your organization to work in an area of your choosing for over 480 hours. Students can be engaged for one or more particular projects, or more generally on a particular focus area, and must spend at least 12-weeks full time with your company.

The students typically have between 2-10 years of work experience, and are among the top MBA students globally. Their areas of focus could be marketing, finance, market research, growth strategy, accounting, or another area linked to their studies, but should be sufficiently complex to provide a challenging work experience and benefit to your organization. Roles that you can consider: Financial Analyst, Business Analyst, Marketing Analyst, etc

Sample areas of focus for the students include, but are not limited to:

  • Creation of financial statements and a pitch deck for a start-up to provide to investors.
  • Developing a user acquisition strategy for a new mobile app.
  • Providing an international expansion strategy for a growing business.
  • Conceiving, designing and developing marketing initiatives for cross platform campaigns spanning mobile and web
  • Developing a market analysis of fund managers and investors
  • Identifying the scope of a certain technology within a particular sector (ex. financial); understanding best practices for implementing this technology across the globe and developing strategies to position your company in the Canadian market
  • Analyzing purchasing data to anticipate future needs, analyzing stock rotation, and optimizing inventory control procedures
  • Assisting in designing the marketing strategy for increasing the market share in the Chinese or other international markets

Schulich 2-year International MBA(IMBA) program prepares the students cohort (29 students this year from Canada and other 10 countries) to operate in culturally diverse working environments and in a global world. All our students speak at least 2 languages and they have between 2-10 years of prior working experience. In the first year of the program the students study all the functional areas of a company, using an international perspective. In the 2nd year of the program they can specialize, choosing from a list of 18 specializations.

The mandatory summer internship happens between year 1 and 2 of the IMBA, it is of min 12 full time weeks, max the duration of the summer (mid-April to September 10) and has a co-op structure (the employer benefiting from the Ontario tax credit). The students can apply their prior working experience leveraged by their knowledge acquired in their 1st year of the program – in the 1st year they complete all their core courses (strategy, marketing, finance, accounting, operations, organizational behavior, etc).

The IMBA is the only program in Schulich that has a co-op structure (the summer internship is a credit course, mandatory for graduating from the program).

Note: Payment is not mandatory, but preference will be given to industry partners who are able to offer some compensation, as an honorarium or full salary. If you engage the student under the co-op structure Schulich School of Business will provide the tax credit letter.
