Details

The primary goal of this project is to empower learners to tackle real-world challenges in product design and prototype development. Specifically, our focus is on the next-generation product line for Armodilo Display Solutions. Learners will engage in the design and creation of innovative solutions within two key categories: Visitor Management and Point of Sale.

  • In the Visitor Management category, the objective is to develop an all-in-one kiosk solution. This comprehensive kiosk will integrate a tablet, peripherals such as a printer, scanner, card reader, and potentially a power source and Cooling or heating depending on the environment in which the units are placed. The aim is to streamline visitor registration, enhance security, and improve the overall visitor experience in various industries, including healthcare, retail, and hospitality.
  • In the Point of Sale category, the project revolves around the creation of a dual-screen kiosk system. This system will have one screen facing the client and another facing the staff. The purpose is to ensure accurate and efficient information exchange during the sales process, ultimately enhancing the customer experience and operational efficiency.
Deliverables
  • Conduct Market Research: Learners will need to research and analyze the market demand and trends for Visitor Management and Point of Sale solutions. This includes identifying potential competitors, customer preferences, and emerging technologies.
  • Ideation and Concept Development: Learners should brainstorm creative ideas for the all-in-one kiosk in the Visitor Management category and the dual-screen Point of Sale system. They should focus on user-friendly interfaces, efficient peripherals integration, and aesthetic design.
  • Prototype Design: Once concepts are developed, learners will translate their ideas into detailed product prototypes. This involves creating design blueprints, selecting materials, and considering the feasibility of integrating various components.
  • Cost Analysis: Learners should calculate the estimated production costs for their prototypes, taking into account materials, labor, and potential manufacturing challenges. This will help in determining the feasibility of the concepts.
  • User Testing: To ensure the functionality and user-friendliness of their designs, learners should conduct user testing sessions, gather feedback, and make necessary adjustments to improve the prototypes.
  • Documentation: Throughout the project, learners should maintain comprehensive documentation of their design and prototyping processes. This includes sketches, CAD drawings, cost breakdowns, and user feedback records.
  • Presentation and Pitch: At the project's conclusion, learners will prepare professional presentations and pitches showcasing their product designs, prototypes, market research findings, and cost analysis. They should effectively communicate the benefits and use cases of their concepts.

By completing these tasks, learners will gain practical experience in product design and prototyping, equipping them with valuable skills for their future careers in the field.

Mentorship
  1. Mentorship and Supervision: Offer weekly mentorship and supervision to guide learners throughout the project, providing valuable insights and feedback.
  2. Access to Design Software: Ensure learners have access to necessary design software for CAD and prototyping, facilitating the creation of digital design blueprints.
  3. 3D Printers and Prototyping Equipment: If locally available, provide access to 3D printers and prototyping equipment, enabling the physical realization of their product prototypes.
  4. Budgeting Assistance: Offer guidance on cost estimation and budgeting, helping learners understand the financial aspects of their product concepts.
  5. Presentation Coaching: Support learners in developing strong presentation skills, ensuring they can effectively communicate their project findings and ideas to stakeholders.
  6. Constructive Feedback: Offer constructive feedback throughout the project's lifecycle. Provide feedback on their design concepts, prototypes, and presentations, helping learners refine their ideas and improve their work iteratively. This feedback loop encourages continuous improvement and skill development.
